POWER UP!! – Six Months Later – Burning Bowl – Change – Realization

On 1- 4-13 a few of us were invited by Monique Spence to take part in Burning Bowl held at Christ Universal Temple in Chicago. Burning Bowl is an event where people gather at the beginning of the New Year to symbolically burn away all the circumstances holding us back and we write a letter to God making requests and asking for change in our lives. The letter is saved and mailed back to you six months later as a check point to see where you are at the half way point in the year.

I am happy to say that I am right where I need to be and everything is LOOKING UP!!! 

We are in the midst of a shift right now and it is not an accident. Peoples sensibilities are changing and we are recognizing who we are. The power is in our words and our actions. Declare change in order to see change. We are not afraid to tap into this power we have given by the creator. We deserve the best. We deserve happiness. 

Reading my letter six months later reaffirms what I know to be true. We are loved and provided for and we dont have to worry about a thing. Take action NOW! Find that place of peace and create. Be inspired and observe the universe moving in your favor.

Kerry Washington pulled a Shug Avery this week “She’s Married Now!” My plans were to deliver some information regarding another character…but uhhhh…thats not gonna happen.

Kerry Washington is an amazing actress and has appeared in various movies throughout the years. Her portrayal of BroomHilda Von Schaft in the controversial Quentin Tarrentino film “Django” adds to her resume of great work. Her performance as Nikki Tru in the Chris Rock film “I Think I Love My Wife” is my favorite. She was a powerful, seductive and sultry woman trying her best to get Chris Rock’s character to cheat on his wife. Without giving away any spoilers lets just say that Chris Rock was having a difficult time staying faithful. Her power of persuasion rivals only that of Olivia Pope.

Kerry’s portrayal of Olivia Pope is sexy, confident and vulnerable. Not to mention the fact that SHE IS SO FINE!!! DANG!…….Ok… let me get back on track…The moments when she introspective and vulnerable are the times when I understand the depth of Olivia. This powerful woman who has the ability to wreak havoc on the most powerful government in the world and has everything that a person could possibly want still desires one thing. She wants to be loved. I understand that. I can relate to that. This is probably why the affair she is having with Fitz touches the fans so deeply. So many are in search of love with such a passion that they will overlook immoral and unethical behavior to have love. No judgements. :-)

Some of Kerry’s best moments are when she delivers her range of the emotion with just one look.

olivia-pope-fitz-hookup-in-closet-episode-14-w724When we last saw Olivia she officially kicked Fitz to the curb (Yeah Right) and he went and laid his head on Mellie’s lap asking for forgiveness.. (Whatever)…lol. Im sure these two will find themselves in some computer room somewhere in the White House again. Maybe they’ll get really creative and pledge their love on the White House lawn. Whatever happens she is going to have to answer A LOT of questions. The cameras are on her this time and the media will be focused. I expect Olivia to be her own client for the bulk of next season. And who knows, maybe Kerry being a married woman will affect her portrayal of Oliva….hmmmmmm.

Another Thursday without Scandal? Dont fret I got you covered. If you have been having a hard time finding something to do during this SCANDAL hiatus make sure you hit last weeks blog.

To be honest I was late to all the SCANDAL hoopla and hype. The only reason I ended up watching was because of a friend of mine who persuaded me and because I wanted to know why this show had people stuck to their television sets. 2 seasons later Im writing a blog about it. Go figure..lol

Full disclosure …Kerry Washington is GORGEOUS and that is probably the main reason I watch the show….HA! The most intriguing aspect of the Olivia Pope character is not her impeccable wardrobe. Finding out that Olivia is based on a real life person is what amazes me.

Judy Smith

Judy Smith is the Co-Executive Producer of SCANDAL and is the real “Fixer”. She was the Press Secretary for President George H Bush and has worked with many high profile clients. Her list of clients include names like Lewinsky, Snipes, Bryant, Barry, Craig, Vick and Jackson Jr.. This woman has put in 25 years of WORK! She is known around the world for her expertise as a “Crisis Management Advisor”

This woman helped a crackhead become mayor again. She helped an accused rapist secure endorsement deals again. She helped a dog fighter reestablish himself in the NFL and Blade was able to be a day-walker again. I think she made Jr. Bi-Polar too….HA!

If I find myself in any crisis I need managed I want her on my team. After reading the bio on her website its clear that this woman is the truth.

It just makes me wonder how many of these episodes have some truth to them….hmmmm.

Malik Yusef – Pave Settings Entertainment – The Music Industry – Precise

I have been involved in the music industry over a decade, consistently pursuing my dream and most recently understanding what my purpose is as an artist. I am here to uplift the mass and be a reminder of the greatness that all of us possess. I do this through my gift of music.

I am extremely encouraged in recent times because of how the face of the music industry is changing. It allows access to areas that may not have been accessible ten years ago. The advent of blogs and social media has enabled me to provide insight into who I am as an artist and a person to the entire world. I am grateful for that.

This is a different time. It is easier to maneuver through some areas, however other areas remain a mystery. Most times the information needed to gain access to these areas will not be available on-line. Nothing substitutes the relationship.

Last week 5-15-2013 courtesy of Pave Settings Entertainment I took part in a Teleconference called Breaking into the Music Industry Ft Malik Yusef of Good Music.  Malik’s resume is loaded with experience in the industry that is invaluable. His accolades range from Tony Awards to Grammys. The relationships he has fostered are golden.

During my time in this industry I have spent A LOT of money for situations that I assumed would help me along my road to success. I have paid to perform at conferences. I have sold tickets for shows. I have spent money for promotions. Sometimes I would benefit. Sometimes I did not benefit. I always chalked it up to paying my dues.

My experiences in terms of the money I have shelled out paying my dues were valuable, however the 2 hours we spent on the phone with Malik during the teleconference was eye opening. There were tips that were given that I moved on right away and garnered immediate results. This teleconference was definitely worth the money and I am recommending it to ALL of my friends and peers in this industry.

Explaining what I learned during the teleconference in this blog would not do it any justice. I am inviting you as my personal guest to take part in the teleconference portion of this event on May 22, 2013. As a result of joining last weeks call I have been given this ability to invite those of you who I know will find value in this conversation.

I think sometimes you are scared to be who you are. I think you are focused on issues  that have no bearing on your life. I think you do not have enough confidence in yourself. I think you forget that we have a limited time on this earth. I think you worry too much. I think you get offended to easily. 

I think you forget how powerful we are.

I think you are AMAZING!! I think you add value to to the lives of those who are around you. I think your influence reaches further than you think. I think you are wonderful. I think you are wealthy. I think you are blessed. I think Gods connection gets stronger everyday. I think you are talented. I think you are a genius. I think you are LOVE! I think you are AWESOME!!!

Scandal – Billy The Kid – Black Men Speak

I was not sure what direction Scandal was going in. After the assassination attempt on Fitz I wasn’t sure if Shondra would be able to top the suspense and intrigue of that specific story line. However as I have mentioned on numerous occasions she is a masterful writer and last night’s episode proves why FB and Twitter feeds are off the chain every Thursday.

**NO SPOILER ALERT…Kind of**

I am going to tred lightly regarding who the mole is because I’m not sure who is reading this. From personal experience I hate to know what’s going to happen before I see it. My initial suspicions of Charlie being the mole were only half right. Olivia and her Gladiators, Cyrus and the White House staff were all stumped. Out of the shadows comes this character who holds the Defiance disk and will most definitely be the bain of everyone’s existence next season. When you find out who the mole is you will flip and you may have to back track a little.

When I first got into this Phenomenon known as Scandal I was extremely curious as to why the show was so popular and why my FB timeline was hijacked every Thursday. I became a fan instantly. However I have my reservations about the writing. With all the glitz and glamour that is Olivia Pope this story essentially focuses on a woman who is in the midst of a love triangle. At this point it might be a square or a polygon.

It does concern me a little that this powerful woman of color is involved in this relationship where she essentially is the “side-piece”. To be honest the story line is not that simple, however on the surface Olivia is involved with a married man and by most accounts this behavior is immoral and objectifies her.

When it comes to Scandal fans I would not fit the usual demographic. I have even seen posts on FB that say “If you are a man watching Scandal go kill yourself.” That’s harsh. Lately I have been seeing a surge of Black men who have so much commentary about a show they don’t know much about. Many take issue with the fact that Olivia is giving these “side chicks” hope and that she is running into the arms of these white men and that it’s not ok.

This whole Thomas Jefferson sleeping with his slave girl narrative has some truth to it. I must admit that Olivia does get on my nerves at times. She dumped the brother to run into the arms of this married man. It can seem extremely ridiculous.

I am not one who discounts the power of the media over the people. The videos we watch and the music that we listen to affect us on a deep level. In “Post Racial America” this type of story line should not be an issue, but its causing a stir among the brothers. Depending on how you look at it it could be good and bad. I happen to think we can learn a great deal from it.
