Jay Electronica is probably the most enigmatic and mysterious rappers on the hip-hop landscape. Jay released Act 1: Eternal Sunshine in 2008 a project inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This ambitious release generated a buzz that would follow Jay from New Orleans to all over the world.

In 2009 in the early days of mp3’s Jay drooped the Just Blaze produced “Exhibit A” and followed it up with “Exhibit C”. Both of the songs were touted as singles for an album that would soon come. It never came.

Lyrically Jay Electronica is a rappers rapper. His mastery of the language and the way he paints pictures leaves people awe inspired. So to hear that his album is officially coming in 40 days and it has a feature from Jay Z is something to look forward to.

I approach this with a cautious optimism. He has done this before.

His fans have been waiting for this album since he signed with Roc Nation in November of 2010. Ten years is a long time to wait for a debut. I’m expecting greatness from this one.

Erykah Badu is selling p***y; not in the way you think

Erykah Badu has never been one to be boring. The 48 year-old song writer, singer, performer, visual artist and doula can now add something else to her resume. She will be an incense maker.

According to an interview she did with the British publication 10 Magazine this incense will be made with cut up pieces of her underwear. The product will be known as “Badu Pussy”. She will sell it on her new online store called Badu World Market.

There has always been a mystique surrounding Badu and her “feminine wiles”. There has been a distinct change in character with regards to the men who have been in her life. See Andre 3000, Common and Jay Electronica. There is a very definite “before Badu” and “after Badu” phase.

“There’s an urban legend that my pussy changes men,” she said. “The men that I fall in love with, and fall in love with me, change jobs and lives.”

If you are curious about how the creative process behind this will happen “I took lots of pairs of my panties, cut them up into little pieces and burned them,” she shared. “Even the ash is part of it.” said Badu

I wonder if lighting this incense in closed quarters will hypnotize. We will see. –

Gayle King apologizes for her interview with Lisa Leslie

Gayle King is not immune to the power of the internet and sound bytes. Yesterday an interview she did with WNBA legend Lisa Leslie went viral. King asked Leslie about Kobe’s legacy and her thoughts on his 2003 assault case. The internet did not take to kindly to her questioning and went ballistic on her.

King felt a lot of this heat and took to her instagram today provide clarification. She put the responsibility of her network CBS. King also mentioned that it was take out of context. She shared if she would have seen that clip first she would have been upset too.

Senate acquits President Trump on articles of impeachment

The Senate has voted to acquit President Trump on the two articles of impeachment levied against him. The tone of these proceedings have been extremely partisan. The thought that Trump would be found guilty by a mostly republican Senate was far fetched.

This impeachment process has been going on since last year. The voting today split across party lines and republicans had the advantage. The results for Article 1: Abuse of Power was 48 votes for guilty and 52 votes for not guilty. The results for Article 2: Obstruction of Congress were 47 for guilty and 53 for not guilty.

Chief Justice Roberts “It is therefore ordered and adjudged that the said Donald John Trump be, and he is hereby, acquitted of the charges in said articles.”

Trump celebrated this victory and plans a massive rally on Thursday. Based on every other rally that Trump has ever thrown this one promises to be the biggest yet. On the heels of a reality show style State Of The Union, Trump will surely be blowing his own horn.

Senator Mitt Romney is the lone republican who voted to convict President Trump of abuse of power. “The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the president committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a ‘high crime and misdemeanor,’ Romney continued “Yes, he did,”

Romney’s vote kept Trump’s victory from being unanimous. Donald Trump Jr. took to twitter calling Romney “bitter” because he could never beat the democrats.

The Trump train keeps rolling and history will see him as the third president ever to be impeached and acquitted.

Gayle King interviewed WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie on “CBS This Morning” about her 20 year friendship with Kobe Bryant who recently passed away with his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash a week ago.

Leslie smiles when she talk about her friend and remembers him for the love of the game. She speaks to his fanaticism of Jordan and how that helped to shape him as a player. Leslie also touched on the idea of Gianna Bryant making it it to the WNBA. Leslie mentioned that Kobe would reach out to her and say “She got it” with regard to his daughters talent level. “She was gonna be in the WNBA” said Leslie.

The conversation then took an abrupt turn when King mentioned the legacy of Kobe and how it was complicated in light of his 2003 rape trial. Leslie was very adamant that she believes that anything that happened with that situation “didn’t happen with force”. King pressed but Leslie stood her ground.

Trump’s State of The Union address was not Nancy Pelosi’s jam

President Trumps State Of The Union address was easily the best thing on television for an hour on February 4, 2020. Trump walked into the chamber emboldened and confident. President Trump ignored the Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi as she extended her hand to shake his. Clearly this is in response to Trumps impeachment. From that point the mood between the president and the speaker was contentious.

Pelosi seemed to be preoccupied and bothered during the entire speech. The democratic side of the chamber was silent for the majority of the time acknowledging a few of the citizens who were recognized, most notably 100 year-old Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee. Any mention Trump made of any accomplishment was met with silence, shouts, boos and chants from a group of democratic women wearing all white.

Trumps touted his accomplishments and praised the economy. “I am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best it has ever been.” said Trump The president lauded his accomplishments on issues ranging from healthcare to immigration. He spoke for about an hour and fifteen minutes and was met with overwhelming love from the republican side of the chamber. He even stopped to autograph one of his supporters ties.

An extremely telling moment was when Nancy Pelosi held up Trump’s speech in full view of the cameras and ripped it up. Clearly Trump is not her jam.

The theme of Trumps speech was “The Great American Comeback” Lets see how he comes back after this trial tomorrow.

Monique goes after Oprah because of Harvey Weinstein

Monique took to instagram recently to give Oprah Winfrey a piece of her mind. Monique decided to share her thoughts with respect to how different Oprah is treating Harvey Weinstein and Russell Simmons.

Both men are currently under investigation for alleged sex crimes against women. Moniques position is that Oprah’s friendship with Harvey Weinstein has caused her not to be as vigilant as she has been with Russell Simmons and Michael Jackson.

The Leaving Neverland documentary about Michael Jackson which was proven to have many inconsistencies was followed up with an interview of the accusers by Oprah. Oprah was also set to produce the documentary On the Record. The film presents the stories of several women who have accused Russell Simmons of sexual assault.

Oprah has since stepped down from the project. She issued a statement “I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on The Untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Documentary and it will not air on Apple TV+, Winfrey continued “First and foremost, I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”

Billie Eilish says rap music is full of lies

Billie Eilish has an opinion on rap. The Grammy award winner who recently made the cover of VOGUE found herself being quite vocal about rap and what rappers are saying. Eilish is known for her song writing that she characterized as works of fiction.

Her inspirations are many and she draws some of that from rap. When making the distinction between what’s real in her music and what’s real in rap she had this to say to VOGUE “Just because the story isn’t real doesn’t mean it can’t be important,” she said. “There’s a difference between lying in a song and writing a story. There are tons of songs where people are just lying. There’s a lot of that in rap right now, from people that I know who rap. It’s like, ‘I got my AK-47, and I’m fuckin’,’ and I’m like, what? You don’t have a gun. ‘And all my bitches…’ I’m like, which bitches? That’s posturing, and that’s not what I’m doing.” she stated

Many rappers have expressed this same sentiment. However; reading what Eilish is saying looks like she is justifying her work of fiction against a rappers work of fiction.

I would be the first to say that rap has a lot of growing to do and subject matter needs to level up. Just don’t use rap as your scapegoat. I’ll chalk that up as Eilish being young.

She makes good music and I’m sure she’ll be doing more rap collaborations in the future.

Megan Thee Stallion and G-Eazy are all about the swirl

Megan Thee Stallion and G-Eazy just added a little spice to Black History Month.

A video is circulating on Twitter showing the two artists hugged up intimately. G-Eazy is sucking Megan’s face, then the camera pans to reveal Megan’s leg wrapped around him.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but Black Twitter is interpreting the moment as a relationship and they are not feeling it.

The tone of this backlash seems to have a lot to do with the interracial makeup of this alleged couple.

In recent memory, Megan has been romantically linked with Trey Songz and Moneybagg Yo, the latter of whom is rumored to be dating G-Herbo’s ex-girlfriend, Ari Fletcher. Megan’s decision to move on was inevitable, but the way she did it shook up the internet — a stark contrast to the way she shook up cyberspace with “Hot Girl Summer.”

Interracial relationships are not new to the music industry. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are two outwardly happy couples that are thriving. Can Megan Thee Stallion follow that trend without ticking off all of Black Twitter? Well, that remains to be seen.

What’s certain is that Megan and G-Eazy’s alleged relationship is not revolutionary. We will have to stay tuned to see how this plays out.

Joaquin Phoenix calls BAFTA out on “systemic racism” in film

Joaquin Phoenix received the best leading actor award at the British Academy Film Awards on February 2, 2020. As he received his award he gave a scathing speech that called out the film industry on it’s biases.”We send a very clear message to people of color, that you are not welcome here. I think thats the message were sending to people who have contributed so much to our medium and our industry and in ways that we benefit from.” said Phoenix

Phoenix is shining the light on an ongoing problem in the film industry. In 2016 the Oscars were called to task when an #OscarsSoWhite movement/boycott was started. In that year all 20 actors nominated in the lead and supporting acting categories are white.

The biases that exist in the film industry are engrained in the fabric of white supremacy. Phoenix addresses this in his speech “We have to really do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism.” he said. He also mentions he has been part of the problem.

The Oscars seemed to be headed down the same road this year when the nominees were being announced for the 92 annual show. Cynthia Erivo quickly shifted that narrative with her best actress nomination for Harriet. That helps the Oscars avoid the shutout but still does not fully address the lack of diversity. Many actors have require inclusion riders in their contracts to address diversity on the set before they take roles. This is a direct response to business as usual and holds studios accountable.

Actors and actresses like Ben Affleck, Frances Mcdermott, Matt Damon and Michael B. Jordan have all adopted this practice to create a more equitable and fair industry. On March 7, 2018 Michael B Jordan announced from his instagram that his company Outlier Society would be adopting the inclusion rider. “In support of the women & men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society.
