Gayle King apologizes for her interview with Lisa Leslie

Gayle King is not immune to the power of the internet and sound bytes. Yesterday an interview she did with WNBA legend Lisa Leslie went viral. King asked Leslie about Kobe’s legacy and her thoughts on his 2003 assault case. The internet did not take to kindly to her questioning and went ballistic on her.

People had a lot to say.

King felt a lot of this heat and took to her instagram today provide clarification. She put the responsibility of her network CBS. King also mentioned that it was take out of context. She shared if she would have seen that clip first she would have been upset too.

Gayle King interviewed WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie on “CBS This Morning” about her 20 year friendship with Kobe Bryant who recently passed away with his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash a week ago.

Leslie smiles when she talk about her friend and remembers him for the love of the game. She speaks to his fanaticism of Jordan and how that helped to shape him as a player. Leslie also touched on the idea of Gianna Bryant making it it to the WNBA. Leslie mentioned that Kobe would reach out to her and say “She got it” with regard to his daughters talent level. “She was gonna be in the WNBA” said Leslie.

The conversation then took an abrupt turn when King mentioned the legacy of Kobe and how it was complicated in light of his 2003 rape trial. Leslie was very adamant that she believes that anything that happened with that situation “didn’t happen with force”. King pressed but Leslie stood her ground.
