Trump Clinches Victory as Latino Voters Shift Republican

By: Eddy “Precise” Lamarre

Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States. Trump, a polarizing figure, secured 277 electoral votes and 71 million popular votes to secure this win. Trump’s election is unprecedented; he is a convicted felon, inspired his supporters to storm the Capitol when he lost in 2020 and survived two assassination attempts. The state of Wisconsin delivered the finishing blow, taking his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, out of contention.

Trump addressed his supporters from his election night watch party in Florida, calling for unity. “It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us,” Trump said. “It’s time to unite.”

“We have to put our country first for at least a period of time,” he added. “We have to fix it.”

Despite Trump’s history of disparaging remarks, he still secured 53% of the Hispanic vote in Florida, a state he won handily. Trump won the support of 45% of Latino voters, a big jump from the 33% he secured in his loss against President Biden. It is the strongest GOP performance among Latinos since the election of George W. Bush in 2004.

Trump gained much of his momentum from Latino men, who backed him over Harris by 10 points. Over the past few months, the spotlight was on Black men and White women as the demographics that would ultimately take Trump over the top. However, Harris actually closed the gap among White women, and 8 in 10 Black men supported Harris.

As the country prepares itself for another four years of Trump, the economy, illegal immigration, the conflict between Israel and Palestine, along with the Russia-Ukraine conflict are on the short list of issues that should be addressed immediately

On Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, LSB Media presented Conversations with Chrisette Michele. The Grammy-winning singer, who is in the middle of a national speaking tour, visited Theatre 47 in the south suburban village of Park Forest, Illinois, as part of a national speaking tour to share a few thoughts and answer some questions.

The show was hosted by A.C. Green and featured several amazing performers, including Keya Tramell, Makeda Grier and Pia Renee, who filled the room with their spirited vocals.

The moderator for the evening was Cherish Brown, and she dove right into the questions for Michele, first asking how she feels about being single again.

“Great,” Michele replied. “When you break away from something that doesn’t serve you, then it’s a wonderful thing. The marriage was the hard part. Getting out was easy.”

When asked why she performed at President Donald Trump’s inaugural ball, her explanation was a bit more layered.

“When you get a No. 1 on the entire Billboard charts, you think, man, if I say something, somebody might hear me. That becomes an idea for reality. And it became an idea for reality when I felt the country was hurting.”

Her explanation shed some light on her decision. Given that she was one of the early victims of cancel culture, it was inspiring to see her bounce back even more empowered.

Michele noted that she embarked on the speaking tour after her mother suggested that she get out and touch the public and share her experiences. As a result, she has been touring schools across the United States.

After the question-and-answer exchange, Michele took to the stage to perform a few stripped-down songs. Her voice remains pristine and powerful. She mentioned she would be back in Chicago for a show at the City Winery.

Take a look at a few pictures in the gallery below.

Trump’s State of The Union address was not Nancy Pelosi’s jam

US Vice President Mike Pence claps as Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi appears to rip a copy of US President Donald Trump speech after he delivers the State of the Union address at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on February 4, 2020. President Trumps State Of The Union address was easily the best thing on television for an hour on February 4, 2020. Trump walked into the chamber emboldened and confident. President Trump ignored the Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi as she extended her hand to shake his. Clearly this is in response to Trumps impeachment. From that point the mood between the president and the speaker was contentious.

Pelosi seemed to be preoccupied and bothered during the entire speech. The democratic side of the chamber was silent for the majority of the time acknowledging a few of the citizens who were recognized, most notably 100 year-old Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee. Any mention Trump made of any accomplishment was met with silence, shouts, boos and chants from a group of democratic women wearing all white.

Trumps touted his accomplishments and praised the economy. “I am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best it has ever been.” said Trump The president lauded his accomplishments on issues ranging from healthcare to immigration. He spoke for about an hour and fifteen minutes and was met with overwhelming love from the republican side of the chamber. He even stopped to autograph one of his supporters ties.

An extremely telling moment was when Nancy Pelosi held up Trump’s speech in full view of the cameras and ripped it up. Clearly Trump is not her jam.

The theme of Trumps speech was “The Great American Comeback” Lets see how he comes back after this trial tomorrow.

What did you think about the State Of The Union? What stood out to you? Was Nancy Pelosi right to do what she did? Share in the comments.

Kanye ain’t been the same since ……

It continues. Kanye has yet unleashed another one of his legendary rants to the displeasure of his fans. Following his rant on November 17th in San Jose, he goes in on yet another one last night  November 19th in Sacramento. This rant was more specific to Jay Z and Beyonce and some industry information many of us may not be privy to. I will go out on a limb and say these attention grabbing rants have nothing to do with the November 23rd release of his Yeezy Boost 750s. I mean that would be to on the nose…right? Well lets say that this is true, why is Kanye seemingly having meltdowns on stage and leaving shows early infuriating his fans?

In the past few days Kanye has voiced his support of President-elect Trump, addressed the importance of collaboration and ideas. He asked Jay Z not to send killers after him and to call him like a man, then he said he was hurt by Beyonce because of a rumor he heard about her and MTV. He started the most recent rant by saying “Fuck You” to the radio.

So at this point the general consensus is that Kanye is crazy. I have even been told by someone close to his camp that he is suffering from mental retardation and that everybody know this. Well I didn’t know. No one can explain why Kanye has been going down this road for sometime now. Some people blame the Kardashians, others blame his friends or lack thereof. Others say Kanye has not been the same since his mother died. To be honest I don’t know if anyone would be the same after their mom dies, plus I’m not a therapist. What I do know is that in the midst of Kanye’s stream of consciousness (rants) he drops a jewel here and there. So, I have not totally written the brother of yet. He is from my city and I support him. I wont buy a ticket to his show (because I actually like to hear music at concerts) and I don’t necessarily agree with his political views, but I do think ideas are important, radio is being bought, political parties suck and collaboration is a good thing. Does that make me crazy? Who are you to say Kanye is? When did the internet become therapists?

I want to know what you think. Take a moment and share in the comments below.
