I had such an amazing time at The 25th Annual African Festival of The Arts. What makes this such a rewarding experiece is to think that my group Nubearth was kicked off the stage at this very same festival 20 years earlier for cussing on stage. NO CUSSING AT THE AFRICAN FEST!!!…LOL!
Anyway I had an awesome time. Check out the video and the pics below.
I’m very excited to be gracing the African Festival of The Arts World Stage on Sep 1st. I go live at 6:40 pm. I look forward to seeing all of you there.
We must not ignore the unrest that seems to have overcome the world right now. This is the moment when true freedom is realized and we become who we are ment to be. It is important for us to shift our perspective to one that embraces all that is good in order for us to tap in to our true potential. We are amazing individuals.
So…I’m at the gas station today and as I walk in a gentleman is smiling ear to ear and engages me in a conversation about JRW (Jackie Robinson West). His exact words were “They saved Chicago.” In a sense I would have to agree. In the midst of this mire of negativity that seems to have showered us in the past few weeks, paired with the reputation that Chicago has earned in recent years due to all the violence, it is truly refreshing to see these youth grab the hearts and minds of Chicago and the world.
Watching the city embrace these young men provided the type of encouragement that galvanized a city and has given a glimpse of what we can do. We can be better. We can choose who we are. We can feel good and spread love. We are champions.
JRW came up short in the final game of the world series, however it does not make their impact any less powerful.
Thank you to Jackie Robinson West for being the spark that will move all of us into the direction of our greatness. All things are possible when we believe, and even in the moments when we may falter allow them to serve as a reminder that the treasure is in the journey and each and every one of us can help to save the world.
They say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice, we say the darker the flesh, the deeper the roots. These days if you ask anyone outside of Chicago what their thoughts are on the city, you will hear words like war-zone, killing, and dangerous. I couldn’t fault them for using such words because Chicago is definitely in the spotlight for the recent amount of shootings and deaths that seem all too familiar.
If you ask native Chicagoans about the condition of the city, you may hear conflicting perspectives dependent on what side of town they are from. Chicago is the most segregated city in the United States. I see this everyday. I feel like this is the source of our problem. This segregation breeds misunderstanding, poverty and lack of gainful opportunities.
Underneath this history of segregation something else is happening in Chicago. There is a sense of community and understanding that is being cultivated. If you listen closely you can hear the heartbeat. The Arts are the heartbeat.
Precise and Eric Williams
For the past 12 years Eric Williams owner of The Silver Room jewelry store in the Wicker Park community of Chicago has hosted the Sound System Block Party. Every year is an amazing experience and this year was no different.
This event represents what Chicago can be, and that is a true community where cultures come together in peace and love. Dj’s, painters and musicians converge and bring an energy of creativity and enthusiasm that can’t be denied.
My set at Energy Alley was AWESOME and I want to thank Dj Kwest_on for rocking with me.
Precise and Dj Kwest_On
My favorite part of the block party are the Dj’s. Im giving a special shout to Dj Tess, Dj Kwest_on and Larry Miller for rocking dope sets last night.
Dj Ron Trent brought everything together. He started his set off with Maya Angelou’s Poem “Phenomenal Woman” and after that the crowd went wild. What an amazing night.
I appreciate Eric Williams for sharing his vision with us and acting as a hub for the artist throughout the entire city. The spirit of love was all around and I would like to say thank you on behalf of Chicago artistry.
Were you able to make it to the block party? Did you like it? Would you like to create your own? Let me now in the comments below and please like the post. :-)
I can’t even describe how excited I am about tomorrow. This block party is the block party of ALL block parties!!
I posted about it a few days ago, since then my time slot has changed. Precise will be at Energy Alley from 5pm to 5:30pm. The updated list and flyer are below.
I am so excited and grateful to be part of this celebration for the second year in a row. Shout Out to Eric Williams for consistently supporting the artists of Chicago. If you have never been to The Silver Room at 1442 N Milwaukee in Chicago, the Block Party will serve as a great first time. The energy is unmatched and artistry and music is all around. Donations are accepted for entrance into the Block party
It’s an ALL DAY PARTY!!!
The After Party will be at The Chop Shop from 10pm to 2am. Terry Hunter and Ron Trent will be spinning classic Chicago House Music. If you have a Block Party wristband it is $5 and $10 without the Block Party wristband.
