Harvey Weinstein is sentenced to 23 years in prison

The disgraced Hollywood producer and mogul has been sentenced to 23 years in a New York state prison after being convicted on felony sex crimes.

The #Metoo movement has proven itself extremely effective as Weinstein is the latest in the string of sex offenders in powerful positions who have had their feet held to the fire and have been held accountable.

Two of Weinstiens accusers gave statements before the sentencing.

“He violated my trust and my body and my personal right to deny sexual advances,” said Miriam Haley

Haley testified that Weinstein forced her to give him oral sex in 2006.

Weinstein also gave a statement.

“I really feel remorse for this situation. I feel it deeply in my heart. I’m really trying, I’m really trying to be a better person.” he said.

Weinstein, 67-years-old will be spending the rest of his life in prison.

Harvey Weinstein found guilty

Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty on two of five potential sexual assault charges. Each charge carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The disgraced movie mogul found himself in the middle of the #Metoo movement when a litany of actresses came forward to speak to Harvey’s behavior.

A jury of 12 convicted Weinstein on one count of committing a criminal sexual act and one count of rape. These crimes are potentially connected to the allegations of Mimi Haley or Jessica Mann.

The 67 year-old Weinstein looked straight ahead as the verdict was read. The verdict was delivered after five days of deliberation.

Weinstein was found not guilty on two counts of predatory sexual assault.
